COACHES VS CANCER GREAT FALLS HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT: RAMAPO AND ST. JOSEPH REGIONAL IN FINAL!
Kennedy HS, Paterson,NJ… The 1st Annual Coaches vs Cancer Holiday Tournament semifinal games were competitive as each game went down to the wire and at the end Ramapo and St. Joseph Regional find themselves in the “Chip”! In the other contests Passaic County Tech and Columbia were victorious!
RAMAPO 66 KENNEDY 62
Sophomore Matt Latka(right) scored 18 points and Senior Matt Grassi(left) scored 13 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 5 as
sists to lead Ramapo to a hard fought 66-62 win over Kennedy! Ramapo led most of the game, but Kennedy would continually fight back behind the play of Sophomore Alphonso Gee who scored 23 points and Junior Aalim Jones who chipped in 12 points! Down 48-38 entering the 4th quarter, Kennedy made another comeback effort but Latka, Grassi and teammates Senior Tommy Gordon(9pts) and Senior Mike Gostkowski who made four clutch free throws down the stretch were able to hold them off! It was the second victory for Ramapo over Kennedy in a week!
ST JOSEPH REGIONAL 76 TRENTON CENTRAL 73
Down 60-50 going into the 4th quarter Trenton central seemed to be in complete control of the game! Somebody forgot to tell St. Joseph as they buckled down defensively and took advantage of some costly mistakes by Trenton
to come from behind and pull off a 76-73 win to reach the finals! Senior Quai Jefferson(right) made two free throws with 9 seconds left to give Joe’s a 74-73 lead to complete the comeback! St. Joe’s had nine players score. Junior Andrew McGuire three point play with 1:55 put Joe’s up one 71-70 but Senior Ezron Bell hit two free throws to give Trenton Central the lead back to 73-72 to set up Jefferson’s heroics! Jefferson finished the game with 18 points and Junior Sean McKinless(left) did a great job at the point handling Trenton’s pressure! He finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists!McGuire scored 8 points while Junior Patrick Doherty chipped in 8 points with 8 rebounds! Trenton Central was led by Senior Nazier McCoy who scored 19 points before fouling out, Senior Shaquan Worthy with 16 points and 7 dimes, Junior Herbert Ellis with 12 points, Senior Kenar Gulley with 11 points and Senior Brandon George with 10!
In the other contests, Senior Nesto Regalado scored 19 points, Senior Vin Mitchell scored 18 points, Senior Brevon Brevard scored 17 points and Senior Zaheem Beal added 13 points as Passaic County Tech beat North Bergen 80-64! Sophomore Abraham Feliz scored 27 points for North Bergen! Columbia beat Paramus Catholic 71-44 behind 24 points from Senior David Runcie(right) and 20 points from Senior Robert Gordon! Senior Marcus Dickerson led P.C. with 12 points!
