NEWARK TECH FIGHTS BACK TO DEFEAT CAMDEN 48-44 FOR GROUP 2 TITLE!

Rutgers University,NJ…….Newark Tech trailed for most of the game and fell behind by as much as 10 points in the 3rd in a game where neither team shot very well, but their tenacity and hustle helped them overcome the lead in the 4th quarter and go on to win the NJSIAA Group 2 Championship by beating Camden 48-44! It was the second straight year that Newark Tech has accomplished that feat! Sophomore Mustafa Lawrence tied the game at 40 on a”triple”, assisted on a bucket by Junior Jordan Zagadou to make it 44-42, scored on a layup to make it 46-44 then hit a free throw for a 47-44 lead! Senior Al-Tariq Halsey finished the scoring with a free throw! Lawrence led the scoring with 13 points and Halsey scored 9 points and pulled down 7 rebounds! Brad Hawkins led the scoring for Camden with 14 points and Tavaris Headen added 12 points! Newark Eastside goes into the T.O.C. with a 20-11 record while Camden finished it’s season at 22-11!
