NORTH GROUP 1 FINAL: UNIVERSITY SURVIVES AGAINST CRESSKILL 56-55!

East Orange,N.J….. Cresskill needed just a little more time! The Cougars furious 4th quarter rally was just short by tenths of seconds as they fell to University 56-55! The win gave University the North Group 1 Championship! Down by as much as 41-28 in the 3rd quarter, Cresskill fought back in the 4th to get within one 56-55 on Senior Matt Flood’s layup off a feed from Luke Kushner! Kushner had hit a “triple” just before that to cut the lead to 56-53! After a University turnover, Cresskill had a shot to go ahead but missed as the clock ran to .1! A desperation end bounds pass ended with Cresskill scoring but too late as the buzzer sounded! Junior Zamir Wright(right) led University in scoring with 17 points as University had control for most of the contest! Senior Kyle Wright(left) finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocked shots! Cresskill was led by Senior Matt Flood and Senior Sean Kelly each scored 19 points to lead Cresskill as Flood also grabbed 12 rebounds and Kelly reached a milestone by scoring his 1,000th point in his last Highschool game! University will meet Paulsboro at Rutgers University Sunday!

 

NOTES:  Gardenstatehoops would like to congratulate Cresskill’s Seniors on an outstanding year and career! this was a squad that grew up together as they are primarily a Senior oriented team! They have left an indelible mark on the School! Led by College bound Matt Flood(pictured) and Sean Kelly the parents of this team should be proud!
