004Montvale,N.J….. The #1 and #2 ranked teams in the Gardenstatehoops Bergen-Passaic rankings squared off tonight and while it wasn’t the prettiest game it was definitely hard fought and at the end Don Bosco, the #1 ranked squad held on to defeat #2 ranked St.Joseph 50-49! Brown commit Brandon Anderson(right) is trying to lay claim as the top player in the area as he scored 23 points, including 19 in the 1st half to lead Prep but the key player in the second half was Prep Sophomore Marcellus Earlington(left)! The 6’6 forward scored 14 points, grabbed 9 rebou003nds and made some big put back buckets down the stretch before fouling out! He kept Prep in the game when they went cold! Junior Chauncey Hawkins led St.Joe’s with 15 points as Senior star Nate Garvey struggled from the field! Garvey finished with 8 points and was out of sync throughout! Still his bucket in the 3rd with 4:07 left gave Joe’s the lead for the first time in the contest 32-31! Don Bosco took a 24-13 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and proceeded to score 15 points in the next two quarters to hold on to a 41-35 lead after three! The back and forth last quarter concluded with Anderson hitting two free throws after a Hawkins free throw to give the final score! St. Joe’s Senior Brian Griffin had a good first half scoring all 9 of his points in the stanza to help keep Joe’s within striking distance and Junior Joe Radi scored 9 on 3″triples”! Don Bosco got good contributions from Sophomore Ron Harper off the bench and Junior Charlie Bagin! These two teams are destined to meet again!
