GARDENSTATEHOOPS CHALLENGE RESULTS: RAMAPO AND PASSAIC WIN IN OT,HUDSON CATHOLIC, HACKENSACK AND TEANECK ALL WIN!

Hudson Catholic H.S. Jersey City, N.J…. Okay, let’s see! five games ,two went to overtime, one was a buzzer beater, one blowout and a come from behind win! That sounds like a pretty good day of Basketball! That’s what you got at Hudson Catholic last night in the first annual Gardenstatehoops Challenge! Ramapo, Passaic , Teaneck, Hudson Catholic and Hackensack all pulled off wins!

                                                                      RAMAPO  58   ST.PETERS PREP  54  OT

  Ramapo seemed to be on their way to a nice win as they led by as much as 17 points, but St.Peters Prep  would not quit and their resiliency and hustle had them climb all the way back and sent the game into overtime at 51! Junior Jorge Portoreal’s driving bucket sent the game into overtime! Ramapo shook it off and outscored Prep 7-3 as Senior Matt Latka’s  layup and a foul was the key bucket as they finally held on to a 58-54! Latka led the scoring with 17 points and 5 rebounds  and Senior Joe O’Hagan added 13 points and 4 steals! Portoreal led Prep with 15 points, while Junior Jordyn Owens added 13 points and Sophomore Shayne Simon chipped in 10 points and 4 assists! Latka and Portoreal were chosen Players Of the game! 

 

                                                                     PASSAIC  76           DWIGHT-MORROW 72  OT

Dwight Morrow came out fast and took an early lead, but Passaic with their top player Jamir T006homas in foul trouble fought back to send the game into overtime! They ended up pulling it off in a 76-72 win! Junior Quasim Wilson scored 20 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead the way! Senior Jordan Hernandez added 15 points and 5 steals! Dwight Morrow was led by Sophomore Macio Robinson with 23 points, including 5″triples” and 5 assists! Senior Khristian Gill finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds and Senior Willie Woods scored 15 points with 6 steals! Wilson and Robinson were chosen Players of the game!

 

 

 

                                                                      HACKENSACK  66     KENNEDY 64

For a minute it looked like the third overtime game in the Gardenstatehoops Challenge, but Junior Ahmed Bailey ended that thought as his shot from the corner at the buzzer gave Hackensack a 66-64 win! Hackensack was ahead by twenty 40-20 at the half, but Kennedy came storming back in the second hal009f behind Senior Alphonso Gee, Senior Brian Patterson, Junior Tamir Williams and Sophomore’s Jamir Lattimore and Jaylen Colon! Gee’s two free throws tied the score at 64 which set the stage for Bailey as they missed two shots before the ball found its way to him on a third offensive rebound! Bailey’s shot was close but the officials ruled it good! Senior MJ Richardson led Hackensack with 18 points and 4 assists, Senior Edward Emedoh finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, Sophomore B.J. Saliba added 13 points and 6 boards and Junior Mykel Swanston chipped in 10 points and had the tough assignment of guarding Gee! Gee finished with a hard earned 19 points! Patterson added 11 points, Williams grabbed 12 rebounds in the contest! Lattimore and Colon showed flashes of the Kennedy future as they played well!  Richardson and Gee chosen Players of the game! 

 

 

                                                                    TEANECK   58    PATERSON EASTSIDE  54

Paterson Eastside had a slim lead for much of the game, but Teaneck finally fought back and took i010t’s first lead on two free throws from Senior Geani Bannerman that made the score 48-46! A “triple” from Junior Al-Jumu Johnson gave Eastside the lead back and the game went back and forth until Junior Adrian Baucom made a layup to put Teaneck ahead 56-54! Junior Jawaun Daniels led Teaneck with 27 points as 23 came in the first half! Sophomore Ja’Quaye James added 12 points and 4 dimes! Junior Nhaz Smith led Eastside with 22 points and Sophomore Lamar Johnson finished with 11! Daniels and Smith were chosen Players of the game!

 

 

               HUDSON CATHOLIC  87    IMMACULATE CONCEPTION  57008

This one was over quick as Sophomore Luther Muhammad scored 28 points with 9 rebounds, Sophomore Jahvon Quinerly had 20 points, Senior Tyheem Burno added 17 points and Junior Marion Williams chipped in 13 points and 6 assists as Hudson Catholic jumped on Immaculate Conception early,taking a 53-19 halftime lead! Sophomore Jalen Carey led the scoring for Immaculate with 21 points and Freshman Cartier Bowman added 18 points! Sophomore Justin Winston added 12 rebounds in the game! Muhammad and Bowman were chosen Players of the game!
