GROUP 2 STATE “CHIP”! WESTSIDE SHOCKS CAMDEN 85-83!
Rutgers University, N.J….In an outstanding, exciting contest, Westside came from as far as 18 down to beat Camden 85-83 and capture the Group 2 State Championship!
Senior Isiah Reyes(right) had the State game of a lifetime as he scored 20 points in the 4th quarter during Westside’s comeback and finished with 36 points and 7 assists! He, at one point scored the first 9 points between the 3rd and 4th quarters and closed the game by converting on two free throws with 1.8 seconds on the clock that proved to be the game winner! Junior Quayon Williams-King added 20 points, including a jumper that gave them a 83-81 lead! and Senior Dayvon Savage chipped in 11 points! Camden seemed in complete control as they took a 62-44 lead in the 3rd quarter and behind Senior Jamal Holloway, who finished with 24 points and Junior John Evans who also finished with 24 points Camden seemed on their way to a title! Sophomore Corey Greer scored 14 points and Senior Brad Hawkins scored 13 points, including the layup that tied the score at 83 for Camden and set the stage for Reyes heroics! Now Westside will face Teaneck in the T.O.C. at 5:30pm Tuesday in Toms River!
