Don Bosco Tech Academy Paterson, N.J…. In one of the best Playaz Basketball Club sponsored New Year’s Jumpoffs there was high level basketball games, close contests and milestones set as some of the best teams in the state hooked up to give great New year’s day action!
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION 69 RANNEY SCHOOL 61
In a game with some of the Top talent in the State, as well as the Country Immaculate Conception and The Ranney School played as top level a Highschool basketball game as two teams could! Syracuse commit Jalen Carey led Immaculate Conception with 28 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals, while his partner Justin Winston added 18 points and 8 rebounds as a late run secured the win for Immaculate 69-61! Rivals #7 and #8 players in the Country in Ranney’s Bryan Antoine and Scottie Lewis and each showed the capacity crowd why they are ranked as high as they are! Antoine finished with 28 points, while Lewis displayed uncanny athleticism as he scored 13 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 7 blocks, including grabbing one out of the air at the rim! Senior Saviour Akuwovo had 12 points and 8 rebounds for Ranney! Sophomore Elijah Hutchins-Everett scored 7 points with 8 rebounds and 3 steals! Immaculate outscored Ranney 10-2 down the stretch to get the win! Carey( right) and Antoine(with Keila Brevard) were Players of the Game!
PATERSON KENNEDY 75 HACKENSACK 69
Hackensack came out sluggish and it proved to be their undoing as Kennedy took an early lead and held on for the entire contest in surprising the Comets 75-69! Senior Jaylen Colon started the damage by scoring 19 of his game high 28 points in the first half! He and Sophomore Jalen Hargrove along with Senior Jamir Lattimore continued the attack in the 2nd half! Hackensack was led by Youngstown St. commit Atiba Taylor who scored 28 points in the game and during the contest hit his 1,000th career point! Senior B.J. Saliba added 17 points for Hackensack who cut the lead to 3 late in the contest! Hargrove made a key layup down the stretch and Lattimore iced the contest with two free throws late! Hargrove finished with 20 points and 7 rebounds and Lattimore(near right) added 17 points with 6 rebounds! Taylor(in white), Colon(far right) and Hargrove(middle) were chosen Players of the Game!
MATER DEI 59 TEANECK 55
Teaneck made a gallant comeback, but fell short as they were defeated by Mater Dei 59-55! Behind the play of Loyola commit Kenny Jones who scored 14 points and dished out 5 assists and Junior Alex Rice, who also scored 14 points Mater Dei built a comfortable lead as they led 37-21 at the half and 46 -35 at the end of the 3rd! Teaneck made their run as they were led by Senior Ja’Quaye James, Senior Sage Robinson and Senior Aaron Sanchez in the 4th quarter! James scored 11 of his 21 points in the 4th quarter, including his 2,000th career point with more than 3 minutes left in the contest! Robinson finished with 8 points and 12 rebounds and Sanchez added 9 points! Senior Kyle Cardeci scored 13 points for Mater Dei! Jones and James were chosen Players of the Game!
GILL ST. BERNARD 56 CAMDEN 51
Junior Paul Mulcahy scored 20 points with 7 rebounds and Senior Alex Schachne added 10 points as Gill St.Bernard led the entire way 56-51! Camden cut the lead late but it was too little too late! Senior Corey Greer and Senior Myles Thompson each scored 16 points for Camden! Senior TJ Chaney chipped in 11 points for Gill St.Bernard ! Mulcahy and Greer were chosen Players of the Game!
BERGEN CATHOLIC 60 ST.MARY’S(ELIZ.) 58
Junior Zach Freemantle scored 9 points, pulled down 16 rebounds and dished out 6 assists and Sophomore Matt Zona and Junior Jayson Earle and Junior Doug Edert all scored 13 points for Bergen Catholic as they outlasted St.Mary’s 60-58! Senior Jay’von Jackson led St.Mary’s with 17 points and Junior Papi Roberts added 14 points! Junior Jalen Leach made clutch free throws late to clinch BC’s win! Freemantle and Jackson were chosen Player’s of the Game!
UNION CATHOLIC 74 POPE JOHN 65
Junior Jaheim Tanksley scored 23 points, Senior Robert Miller added 18 points, Senior Ibn Lynn scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds and Junior Justin Archer finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds to lead Union Catholic to a 74-65 win over Pope John! The game was close throughout until UC made a late run! Pope John was led by Sacred Heart commit Aaron Clarke who scored 30 points and Sophomore Francisco Paulino chipped in 10 points for Pope John! Tanksley and Clarke were chosen Players of the Game!
