005Ramapo, N.J.. In a game where no one scored in double figures and the offense was not crisp, Demarest outlasted Ramapo 37-36 to win the North 1 Group 3 Sectional Title in a hard fought contest!

Senior Joe Rotonde(pictured) who scored 9 points, made two free throws with 18 seconds left that gave Demarest a f006our point lead as they withstood a “triple” from Ramapo Junior John Whooley to hold on to the one point victory! Demarest seemed to be in trouble as with 3:11 left in the game Senior Zach Stimmel, who also scored 9 points, fouled out! Demarest stayed calm as Ramapo put the heat on defensively and seemed on the verge of taking control! In a game that was tied at 20 to end the 3rd, the two teams scored 17 and 16 points respectively in the high intensity 4th quarter! Junior Nick Argenziano made two critical free throws, as did Senior Jake Runyon, who scored 8 points! Ramapo had valiant efforts from Sophomore Max Pernetti who hit two big shots late to tie the scored at 29 and then again at 33 lead them with 9 points and Senior Jason Oppler and Junior K.C. Hunt who each scored 8 points!

Farewell: Gardenstatehoops would like to acknowledge the highschool careers of the Ramapo Seniors! Ben Bitensky,  Andrew Curcura, Vasil Econopouly, Michael Alvarez all were contributing players for Ramapo this year and important co010gs! Special acknowledgement goes out to Senior Jason Oppler! Jason(pictured) had a fantastic final year and was the heart of Ramapo’s hard nosed team! His desire to do what ever it took to get a win was evident every time he stepped on the floor and he should be proud of himself for always giving  his all on the floor! Gardenstatehoops would like to congratulate these players on great careers and wish for the best in the future!
