SHAWNEE GROUP 4 CHAMPIONS!
New Brunswick,N.J…. Shawnee withstood a tremendous comeback by Newark Eastside and Junior Connor Deveney’s putback of a missed free throw proved to be the difference in Shawnee’s surprising 56-53 win over Newark Eastside and become the Group 4 Champions!
Shawnee jumped out to a 25-7 1st quarterlead behind the shooting of Senior Dylan Deveney, but Newark Eastside came roaring back outscoring Shawnee 24-6 in the 2nd , behind the scoring of Senior Keron Williams as the teams went into the half tied at 31! The affair went back and forth as Shawnee took a 43-40 lead into the final stanza! Stony Brook commit Haasan Ceesay’s free throw put Eastside up 53-51 with 1:33 left! Down two, Senior Dean Noll was fouled with 15 seconds left and made the first free throw! He proceeded to miss the second shot, but that’s when Connor Deveney followed the miss and put Shawnee up 54-53! Two missed free throws by Newark Eastside resulted in Noll being fouled again and this time converting both for the final points of the contest! Dylan Deveney led Shawnee with 18 points, while Noll finished with 15 points and Senior Daevon Robinson chipped in 11 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists! Williams led Newark Eastside with 13 points and Junior Nas Amos who was injured late in the game and proved to be costly to Newark Eastside finished with 9 points and 6 assists!
