PASSAIC COUNTY TOURNAMENT RESULTS: KENNEDY WILL MEET CLIFTON IN THE FINAL!

Kennedy H.S. Paterson,N.J….The Passaic County Tournament had it’s Semifinal action and saw Kennedy and Clifton advance to the County Final!

In a tough, halfcourt game Kennedy and Wayne Hills battled each other until late in the 4th quarter as a Freshman led the way to help the Knights pull off a 44-39 win over Wayne Hills! Freshman Jay’quan Briggs scored 9 points late in the fourth quarter, including 8 in a row to lead Kennedy to the win! Senior Avant’e Gilbert’s free throw gave Kennedy the lead 29-28 with 3:53 left and Briggs(right) proceeded to make a layup to give them a 31-28 lead that they never relinguished! Gilbert finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Briggs added 11! Junior Deishon Harrison chipped in 8 points, including 4 for 5 from the free throw line late! Senior D’Journ Cook also scored 8 points for Kennedy! Hills was led by Senior Guard Jake Belli with 16 points and 4 assists and Senior Nebi Ademi with 9 points and 9 rebounds!

After a 45 year drought, Clifton has made it back to the Passaic County Finals! They had not reached the title game since 1974! Led by Senior’s Lazor Jovanovich, Armani Brinson, Wendell Abellard and Junior Ian Felix Clifton pulled away from Wayne Valley 58-41! A 14-1 run in the 3rd quarter helped the Mustangs extend to a 38-25 lead going into the 4th quarter and they never looked back! Jovanovich(right) finished with 16 points, Brinson added 10 points and 9 assists and Abellard and Felix each scored 13 to lead Clifton! Wayne Valley, who was missing their second leading scorer in Senior Anthony D’Arienzo was led by Senior Mark Howell with 14 points and Senior Patrick Cronin added 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds!
