Written by Cameron on . Posted in Garden State Hoops

Wayne, New Jersey,…… In Phase 3 of the Playaz sponsored Spring Fling 15u Team Takeover of D.C. and the Brooklyn Rens 17u took home the “Chip”:

TEAM TAKEOVER  87                     TEAM SCAN  67

Marcus Derrickson(left) scored 23 points to lead Team Takeover to the 20 point win over a good Team Scan 87-67! Franklin Howard added 17 points to offset the 25 point game by Scan’s Arron Ray, 20 points from Chris Aikens  and 17 points from Chancelor Ellis! Derrrickson was voted the M.V.P. while Ray won the Sportsman award! It marked the second champion for Takeover as the 16u won last week!

BROOKLYN RENS  64              LONG ISLAND LIGHTNING  61   OT

Wayne Martin’s 21 points led the way in a overtime thriller for the Brooklyn Ren’s 64-61 win over the Long Island Lightning! Martin’s(far left) and one late in overtime proved to be the difference! The Ren’s had to overcome the play of 6’9 sensation Kuran Iverson(right) who scored 12 points and was active inside and out and also the play of 6’2 guard Dayshon Smith! The game was tied at 55 going into the extra session as Smith hit a “triple” to send the game into overtime! Martin was named M.V.P. while Iverson got the Sportsman award!

NOTE:     The Playaz 15u lost to the N.Y. Lightning  70-57 in the quarterfinals as 6’9 Jesse Govan scored 14 of his 16 points in the 2nd half! Isaiah Briscoe scored 27 points but tired late as he was an iron man during the weekend playing 5 games in one day! The  Playaz 16’s finished 3-1 in pool play of the 17u but didn’t reach the playoffs on points! Briscoe also led that squad! The 16’s also got good play from Marques Townes, Jordan Forehand, Alex Thomas and Shakur Juiston! The 17’s lost to the Lightning in the semifinals 56-54! Mike Young led the Playaz with 16 points! Before the Semi’s the Playaz 17’s had a load of players that played well! Reggie Cameron shot the lights out all week as did Joel Hernandez! Kavon Stewart, Karonn Davis and Neville Fincher also impressed during the week! And they played shorthanded most of the tournament as guard Shane Rector was down with a bum ankle!
