Coaches Versus Cancer Classic Revue! Don Bosco Prep And Teaneck Win!

Kennedy H.S. N.J………The Coaches Versus Cancer Classic began it’s weekend with two games on Friday! Don Bosco Prep and Teaneck ended up victorious!

 

 

 

                                          DON BOSCO PREP  69             LINDEN  60    O.T.

 

   Don Bosco Prep and Linden played a close game with each side having a chance to pull off the win! Linden kept a slight lead in the 2nd half after a 30 all halftime score! Linden took a 49-46 lead with 37 seconds left, when Senior John Landro knocked down a “triple” to tie the game! After Linden couldn’t convert on the final play, Prep took over in overtime! Senior Jemal Moseley started the O.T. with a “triple”, then Senior bigman Dajon Toddman raised the roof with a alley-oop off a pass from Senior Leonte Carroo! He was fouled on the play and pushed the lead to 56-49 as their was a technical foul call against Linden! That stretch clinched the game for Prep! D.B.P. had four players reach double figures as Moseley and Carroo each scored 14 points and Toddman and Sophomore Paul Jorgenson each scored 11 points! Toddman(pictured) was the difference in the contest as his contribution on the defensive end as well as on offense was key! He finished with 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots and changed numerous other shots! Carroo also grabbed 9 rebounds! Linden was led by Senior Shakir Phelps who scored 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds! Sophomore Juwan Jones added 9 points!

   Two of the top players in Northern New Jersey competed in this game and each more than showed his wares! Teaneck’s Chris Jones scored 25 points in the game and Kennedy’s Sammy Singletary scored 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the contest was close throughout but Jones just had a few more horses with him! Kennedy led 28-22 at the end of the first half but Jones, Junior Joel Hernandez and Junior Neville Fincher made their presence felt in the 3rd quarter! Senior Jamaar Ellerbee played well for Kennedy scoring 16 points, including 4″triples”! Jones scored 5 straight points to end the 3rd quarter and give Teaneck a 41-36 lead! Kennedy battled as Singletary continued to go hard,but they just could not get over the hump! Hernandez finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds and Fincher had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds!

 

 

NOTE: All proceeds from the games go to various Cancer facilities to help cure this dreaded disease! More action Saturday and Sunday at Kennedy Highschool!

 

 

Hudson Catholic Makes Statement Over St. Peters Prep 59-43!

St.Peters Prep, Jersey City, N.J……… They may not be #1 in Hudson County,that title would go to St.Anthony,but Hudson Catholic made a strong case for being a solid #2 and a true top team in the State in beating St. Peters Prep 59-43 in a hostile and enthusiastic environment! The Hawks got contributions from a number of players, led by their Junior’s Mike Young, Kavon Stewart and Reggie Cameron! Young(left) in particular, was a man amongst boys at points of the game! He finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocked shots and excited the crowd with a few power dunks! Stewart(right) was the best guard on the court scoring 13 points with 11 assists and Cameron(center) contributed 13 points and 11 boards! Senior Grant Ellis, the Iona commit made his presence felt scoring 7 points and grabbing 6 rebounds! He also made a crucial “triple” in the contest! St.Peters Prep had a 15-14 lead at the end of the 1st quarter, but two buckets by Young and a”triple” by Cameron gave Hudson the lead in the 2nd quarter and they never relinguished it! Prep cut the lead to 7 in the 4th quarter but a Kavon Stewart layup plus the foul and another one from Freshman Nassir Barrino upped the lead to double digits! Prep played hard and did not give up as they got good performances from Senior Tyrone O’Garro(13pts,6rebs), Junior Sean Cummings(10pts) and Junior Trevis Wyche(10pts,5asts)!

Passaic Tech Outlasts Wayne Hills 58-45!

Passaic TechWayne, N.J……. Passaic County Tech extended a one point halftime lead and finally took down a game Wayne Hills 58-45! Junior Isaac Williams(right) led Tech with 21 points and Senior Shackquiel Scott(left) added 19 points, including a couple of impressive dunks! Wayne Hills started slow, trailing 10-0 with 2:07 left in the 1st quarter! But they got their head into it and played tough the rest of the half at one point taking a 19-18 lead on a steal and layup by Senior Darius Haber! Tech took control in the 2nd half, extending the lead to as much as 15!Williams and Scott got out on a number of fastbreaks off turnovers! Senior Jarrett Sykes added 8 points and 8 rebounds for Tech! Wayne Hills was led by Sophomore Scott Wills with 15 points and 4 assists! Wills is a poised point guard who seems to have a big upside! Will be hearing alot about him in the future! Haber finished with 10 points!
