Coaches Versus Cancer Classic Revue! Don Bosco Prep And Teaneck Win!
Kennedy H.S. N.J………The Coaches Versus Cancer Classic began it’s weekend with two games on Friday! Don Bosco Prep and Teaneck ended up victorious!
DON BOSCO PREP 69 LINDEN 60 O.T.
Don Bosco Prep and Linden played a close game with each side having a chance to pull off the win! Linden kept a slight lead in the 2nd half after a 30 all halftime score! Linden took a 49-46 lead with 37 seconds left, when Senior John Landro knocked down a “triple” to tie the game! After Linden couldn’t convert on the final play, Prep took over in overtime! Senior Jemal Moseley started the O.T. with a “triple”, then Senior bigman Dajon Toddman raised the roof with a alley-oop off a pass from Senior Leonte Carroo! He was fouled on the play and pushed the lead to 56-49 as their was a technical foul call against Linden! That stretch clinched the game for Prep! D.B.P. had four players reach double figures as Moseley and Carroo each scored 14 points and Toddman and Sophomore Paul Jorgenson each scored 11 points! Toddman(pictured) was the difference in the contest as his contribution on the defensive end as well as on offense was key! He finished with 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots and changed numerous other shots! Carroo also grabbed 9 rebounds! Linden was led by Senior Shakir Phelps who scored 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds! Sophomore Juwan Jones added 9 points!
TEANECK 59 KENNEDY 54
Two of the top players in Northern New Jersey competed in this game and each more than showed his wares! Teaneck’s Chris Jones scored 25 points in the game and Kennedy’s Sammy Singletary scored 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the contest was close throughout but Jones just had a few more horses with him! Kennedy led 28-22 at the end of the first half but Jones, Junior Joel Hernandez and Junior Neville Fincher made their presence felt in the 3rd quarter! Senior Jamaar Ellerbee played well for Kennedy scoring 16 points, including 4″triples”! Jones scored 5 straight points to end the 3rd quarter and give Teaneck a 41-36 lead! Kennedy battled as Singletary continued to go hard,but they just could not get over the hump! Hernandez finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds and Fincher had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds!
NOTE: All proceeds from the games go to various Cancer facilities to help cure this dreaded disease! More action Saturday and Sunday at Kennedy Highschool!
