Bloomfield, N.J……After trailing at the half, Irvington came out strong in the 3rd quarter to outscore Ramapo 24-12 and go on to win 68-57 and in the process become The Group 3 North Champions! Senior Kymani Dunbar started the game with a steal and dunk and finished the game with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals and Senior Karriem Thomas added 19 points for Irvington! Senior Moses Pierre scored 13 of his 15 points for Irvington and also pulled down 13 rebounds! Senior Max Pernetti led Ramapo with 18 points and 9 rebounds,while Junior Jason Keith added 16 points, Senior Chris Valvano chipped in 12 points and Junior Collin McKenna finished with 9 points and 3 blocked shots!
Paterson, N.J….. #1 Seed Kennedy came out with a purpose and was not to be denied as they jumped on #3 Seed Ridgewood early and never let up, winning going away 74-44 and in the process became the first Knight’s team to win the North 1 Group 4 Sectional Title since 1998! Senior Deishon Harrison led the way for Kennedy with 23 points, 5 assists and 4 steals and Senior Mark Heber scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half as Kennedy exploded to a 43-18 halftime lead! Ridgewood scored the first 4 points of the game, but behind Sophomore Jay’Quan Briggs and Heber Kennedy erased the small lead quickly and extended it to 24-12 after the first quarter! Briggs finished with 10 points, 8 of them coming in the first half! Senior Jared Powers led Ridgewood with 16 points and Senior Tristan Wennersten added 12 points and 8 rebounds! Kennedy will face Elizabeth at the Dunn Center in Elizabeth on Thursday!
Paterson, N.J…. Paterson Charter got it done this year! After losing in the North 1 Group 1 Sectional Championship last year, Charter came back with a vengeance this year by going 16-0 in it’s League, playing a tough out of conference schedule and reaching the Semifinals of the Passaic County Tournament! All of this prepared them for this year and it paid off as they defeated Cresskill 59-43 to earn it’s first North 1 Group 1 Sectional Championship in the school’s history! Senior Sadiki Miller scored 19 points and Senior Marquis Harris scored 18 points with 6 assists to lead Charter to it’s title! Charter took an 11-4 lead in the 1st quarter and maintained the lead the entire way, although Cresskill continued to fight and stay in the contest! Back to back “triples” by Harris and Miller gave charter a 38-29 lead in the 3rd quarter as they entered the 4th quarter leading 40-31! The first 3 minutes of the 4th Cresskill was held scoreless as Charter’s defense broke the game open with Senior Troy Medlock’s steal with 6:24 left giving them a 45-31 lead! Senior Kyle McGee led Cresskill with 14 points, while Senior Christian Radovitch added 11! Medlock finished with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals for Charter who will now meet University Wednesday at Bloomfield H.S.!
