FAVIERI “TRIPLE” AT BUZZER LIFTS RIDGEWOOD TO 71-70 WIN!
Ridgewood, N.J…. In one of the best but most controversial games of the year, Ridgewood defeated Hackensack in stunning fashion 71-70 on a “triple” from Senior Matt Favieri at the buzzer!
With the game close throughout, Ridgewood was ahead for most of the contest, but the 4th quarter was memorable as each team traded leads on clutch plays from numerous players! Trailing by 3 with 55 seconds left Hackensack Senior Kevin Mateo tied the score on and old fashion and one as he made a layup and converted the free throw to tie the game at 67! This is when it got interesting! Ridgewood missed shot was rebounded by Senior Seth Shariff Brown with 12 seconds left! He gave the ball to Mateo, who drained a long “triple”with what seemed like the end of the game and a 70-67 Hackensack win! But as the Hackensack faithful left the stands to rejoice, it was said that there was still time on the clock and Hackensack was accessed a technical! Senior Devin Johnson made one of twofree throws to cut the lead to 70-68 with 1.34 seconds the refs said was left! The ball was then brought to halfcourt and after timeouts from both teams, Ridgewood ran a play where Favieri(pictured) came to the top of the circle and drained a”triple” at the buzzer to give Ridgewood the impossible W! Favieri led Ridgewood with 24 points and 10 rebounds with 7 of them offensive! Senior Triston Wennerstein added 12 points and 9 rebounds, Senior Jared Powers added 13 points and Senior Devin Johnson chipped in 10 points with 7 assists! Hackensack was led by Brown with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 7 blocked shots! Mateo finished with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists, while Senior Amire Walker added 16 points and Sophomore Shawn Reckley chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds!
NOTE: Hackensack’s Seth Sharif-Brown scored his 1,000th career point in the contest! His 19th point of the game reached the barrier! (Seth Sharif-Brown with mom Atia Sherref)
