GROUP 4 PUBLIC MATCHUP: CONNORS BUCKET LIFTS #5 WAYNE VALLEY PAST #4 FAIRLAWN 45-44 IN O.T.!
Fairlawn,NJ… Senior Liam Connor did not play his best game as he made a mental error in the 1st half by picking up his 2nd foul and a technical which gave him 3 for the half and had him sit the rest of the stanza! So going onto the second half Connor had to redeem himself! And he did just that, scoring all 10 of his points in the 2nd half, including the game winning banker with 3.1 seconds on the clock in overtime and giving Wayne Valley a 45-44 win over Fairlawn and a North 1 Group 4 Semi-final meeting with #1 seeded Eastside! The game was close throughout as Wayne Valley started the game on a 7-0 run and Fairlawn then went on a 10-0 run to take a 10-7 lead to end the 1st quarter! Sophomore Nick Giuliano kept Valley in the game, scoring 13 of his game high 18 points in the 1st half and giving his squad a 23-21 halftime lead! The game continued to stay close as each team took turns grabbing the lead! Fairlawn held a 35-33 lead to end the 3rd! Fairlawn had a last second shot but Senior Chris Moseley’s shot fell off the rim to send the game to overtime at 42 all! Their were only 5 points scored between the two teams in the overtime as Wayne Valley’s Junior Kyle Greve hit a free throw for a 43-42 lead, but Moseley scored on a follow of his missed shot to give Fairlawn a 44-43 lead! It set the stage for Connor’s heroics!
