HOOP GROUP SHOWCASE: ROSELLE CATHOLIC, ST.ANTHONY, PATRICK SCHOOL, UNION CATHOLIC AND LINDEN WIN!
The second day of the Hoop Group Tipoff Showcase brought the big boys as Roselle Catholic, St. Anthony and The Patrick School who are the favorites to win this years T.O.C. all took the court today and all looked good in winning their contests! Union Catholic and Linden also pulled off victories!
ROSELLE CATHOLIC 78 BLAIR ACADEMY 46
Blair Academy boasts two high major D 1 players I Elijah Burns who will be at Notre Dame and Tim Delaney who’s headed to Villanova, so it was amazing to watch Roselle Catholic literally dismantle them 78-46! Led by Kentucky commit Isaiah Briscoe, Roselle Catholic took a 21-6 1st quarter lead and never felt threatened! Briscoe(pictured) led the barrage with 23 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds! Junior Matt Bullock and Junior Asante Gist each scored 13 points with Gist also dropping 7 dimes with 4 steals! Blair was led by Senior Spencer Osborne with 13 points and Burns with 10! Roselle Catholic on this day, established themselves as the team to beat this season!!
ST. ANTHONY 49 NEWARK EASTSIDE 33
Wichita St. commit Markis McDuffie(pictured) showed a sweet stroke in scoring 23 points and his partner in crime Jagan Mosely added 14 as they won a hard fought defensive game against Newark Eastside 49-33! These two teams are the best in the State when it comes to lock down D and it was on display in this contest as baskets came hard to come by! Senior Jibreel Ahmad led Newark Eastside with 14 points and Sophomore Elijah Olaniyi added 7 points! St. Anthony did nothing for you not to believe thay will also be a major player in the quest for a T.O.C. “Chip”!
PATRICK SCHOOL 55 BERGEN CATHOLIC 40
The Patrick School had their hands full for three quarters with Bergen Catholic, but their depth and the insertion of 6’10 Sophomore Nicholas Richards changed the complexion of the game! Sophomore Jamir Harris(pictured) led the way for the Patrick School, who played without the services of star guard Bryce Aiken who is nursing a hip flexor as he scored 17 points to lead the way and Junior Rakym Felder added 11 points! The insertion of Richards was a big factor on the defensive end as Bergen Catholic felt his presence on the floor! He grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked 3 shots besides altering numerous others and while only scoring 7 points they came on two thunderous put back dunks, an over the rim layup and a free throw! The best play of the game was blocking an attempted dunk by Bergen Catholic which changed the game around! Bergen Catholic was led by St. Joseph commit Pierfrancisco Oliva with 12 points, 10 points from Senior guard Justin Salem and 8 points from Senior Anthony Uribe!
UNION CATHOLIC 70 WEST ORANGE
Junior Zahir Newell(pictured) scored 17 points with 5 steals and Robert Morris commit Isaiah Still hit four straight free throws to help Union Catholic hold on to a 70-66 win over West Orange! They had to overcome the 18 point effort from West Orange Senior Andy Fleurantin, 11 points from Senior Jeremiah Boone-Alexander and 10 points from Freshman Justin Winston!
In the last contest of the day Linden beat the Hun School 65-56 behind Rick’Keem Mixon’s 23 points, in cluding 15 free throws! Eric Williams led Hun with 16 points!
