HOOP GROUP TIPOFF SHOWCASE: ST.JOSEPH(METUCHEN), ROSELLE CATHOLIC, LINDEN AND ST.BENEDICTS WIN!

Caldwell University, Caldwell, N.J……. Day two of the Hoop Group Tipoff Showcase featured four top flight games which when all was said and done St.Joseph-Metuchen, Roselle Catholic, Linden and St.Benedict’s all pulled off victories!

 Ramapo came into the Hoop Group Showcase Tipoff given no chance to win and probably not any expectations from anyone there to even keeping the game against St.Joseph-Metuchen close! As expected, St.Joseph-Metuchen came away with the win over Ramapo, but the Green Raiders did more than make St.Joe’s sweat as their grittiness kept the game close throughout! It took the play of Syracuse commit Tyus Battle and Mississippi commit Breen Tyree to make sure St.Joe’s came away with this win! Battle scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half and Tyree finished with 12 points, including a big three point play late to give St.Joe’s a 55-49 win and grabbed 8 rebounds! Ramapo kept the game close behind the play of Senior Joe O’Hagan, Senior Matt Latka and Sophomore Jason Oppler as they cut the lead to two 50-48 but St.Joe’s made free throws late to pull off the win! During the contest Battle scored his 1,000th career point on a spinning runner in the lane ! O’Hagan led Ramapo with 14 points, while Latka and Oppler finished with 10 points apiece! Battle(right) and O’Hagan(left) were voted Players Of The Game!

 

 

                                                                        ROSELLE CATHOLIC  79     NEWARK EASTSIDE  56

Junior Andre Rafus scored 17 second half points, including 5″triples” and Junior Leondre Washington scored 15 points as Roselle Catholic had 5 players in double figures enroute to a 79-56 win over Newark Eastside! Rafus finished the game with 21 points, Senior Matt Bullock scored 11 points, Junior Nate Pierre-Louis and Senior Witkor Sewiol each chipped in 10 points for Roselle Catholic! Sophomore Nazreon Reid grabbed 11 rebounds as R.C. dominated the glass! Roselle Catholic took a 59-45 3rd quarter and extended it in the 4th where Newark Eastside could not get close! Sophomore Jihad Jenkins 14 points lead Newark Eastside and Freshman Nas Amos added 10! Rafus(right) and Jenkins(left) were voted Players Of The Game!

Linden came from as far down as 16 points to slow walk The Hun School down and come from behind to defeat them 55-50! Sophomore Tavon Jones led Linden with 15 points, knocking down crucial free throws late in the game to go with 9 rebounds! Senior William Phelps added 12 points on 4″triples”! Princeton bound Senior Jose Morales scored 20 points to lead The Hun! Senior Niall Carpenter added 10 points for Hun! Jones(right) and Morales(left) were voted Players Of The Game!

 

 

 

 

                                                                                         ST. BENEDICTS  59         RUTGERS PREP  39

 

Junior guard David Beatty scored 20 points, Senior James Scott had 18 and Senior Arnaldo Toro had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds as St.Benedict’s defeated Rutgers Prep 59-39! The trio accounted for 52 of their 59 points! They did get a solid defensive effort from 6’10 Junior Bourama Sidibe who pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked 8 shots! Rutgers Prep stayed close early, but Benedict’s slowly pulled away throughout the contest! Junior Jayson Oweh led Prep with 12 points and 7 rebounds! Beatty(right) and Oweh(left) were voted Player’s Of The Game!
