JINGLE BELLS JUBILEE HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT RESULTS: TEANECK, HUDSON CATHOLIC, GILL ST. BERNARD AND PATERSON EASTSIDE WIN!!
Paterson Science Of Technology, Paterson,NJ…. The 6th annual Jingle Bells Jubilee Holiday Tournament sponsored by the Playaz kicked off four first round games! While Teaneck, Hudson Catholic and Gill St. Bernard won with relative ease, Eastside had to pull it off at the wire!
PATERSON EASTSIDE 64 NEWARK TECH 62
The best game of the night featured Paterson Eastside’s 64-62 win against Newark Tech! The Terriers from Newark jumped on the Ghost’s early behind Sophomore Mustafa Lawrence, Freshman R.J. Coles and Senior Tyree Sykes taking a 24-10 1st quarter lead! Eastside slow walked Newark Tech down and cut the lead to one 28-27 at the half as Junior Asem Johnson’s( left) baseline dunk woke Eastside up.The 2nd half went back and forth, but Eastside seemed to take control of the contest behind the play of Junior Aaryn Abrams(right) who came off the bench to provide a huge spark. His steal and assist to Johnson resulted in a dunk and the lead midway in the 3rd! Newark Tech would not quit and eventually tied the score on a”triple” by Coles with under a minute left at 62! Eastside held the ball and with 5.5 seconds on the clock Newark Tech was called for a foul that put Abrams on the line! He calmly sank two free throws to put Eastside ahead and a desperate three by Newark Tech was off to give Eastside the win. Johnson led the Ghosts in scoring with 22 points and 8 rebounds,while Abrams scored 13 points including 10 for 10 from the foulline with 5 assists. Junior Shakur Juiston added 10 points and 8 rebounds and Senior Ahmad Dauda scored 10 points with 3″triples”! Sykes led Tech with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Coles finished with 13 points and Lawrence added 11 points and 5 assists!
TEANECK 93 HACKENSACK 62
Eastside will face Teaneck who took a close score early and ended up routing Hackensack 93-62! Junior Ceasar DeJesus(right) scored 26 points and Freshman Leondre Washington finished with 25 points,as with the score tied at 21 Teaneck went on a 21-4 run to take over the contest! Hackensack is young this year with not a lot of experience but they still give an extreme effort! Senior Philip Hammond led the Comets with 20 points, Senior Barry Palmore added 13 points, Freshman Ahmed Bailey added 12 points and Sophomore Tommy Smith chipped in 10! Teaneck also got 14 points from Senior Lavrone Green-Reels and 11 points from Senior Corrie Brown!
Senior guard J.R. Lynch(right) scored 21 points, including 5″triples” and had 4 steals to lead Hudson Catholic to an easy 81-33 victory over Passaic! Junior Nassir Barrino added 17 points with 5 steals as Hudson Catholic forced over 30 turnovers! Senior Galvis Blandino was the bright spot for Passaic with 11 points!
Sophomore sensation Tyus Battle(right) who is ranked #11 in the Class of 2016 by Rivals.com scored 25 points, pulled down 7 rebounds and blocked 3 shots to lead Gill St. Bernard to a 59-44 win over DePaul! The game was close after the 1st quarter with Gill holding an 18-12 lead, but GSB outscored DePaul 16-5 in the 2nd quarter to take a 34-16 lead at intermission and never looked back!Junior J.M. Mea added 10 points for Gill St. Bernard! Senior Juwuan Carter led DePaul with 22 points and Freshman Isaiah Robertson added 8 points!
