JUMPOFF SHOCKER: PATERSON EASTSIDE BEATS ST. ANTHONY’S 49-48!
Eastside HS, Paterson,NJ…. The Playaz Club sponsored New Years Jumpoff played at Paterson Eastside had three games played tonight and while Teaneck and Englewood were not unexpected wins, Paterson Eastside turned the Highschool basketball world upside down by defeating St. Anthony’s, the perennial top team in the State 49-48!
PATERSON EASTSIDE 49 ST. ANTHONY 48
In a game that went to the last shot Paterson Eastside held on to defeat St. Anthony 49-48! Eastside held a 30-21 halftime lead, but the Friars, as expected slowly walked the Ghosts down in the 2nd half! They finally took the lead 45-44 on Senior Tarin Smith’s steal and layup, then Boston University commit Cheddi Mosely made a huge”triple” to extend the lead to 48-44! Junior Asem Johnson scored the next four points for Eastside to tie the score at 48. Junior Shakur Juiston made one of two free throws to give Eastside the final margin of victory! A last second shot attempt was blocked by Junior Marquel Sheffield to end the game! Johnson led Eastside with 18 points, Juiston finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 6 dimes and Senior Ahmad Dauda(pictured) who was voted the Game MVP finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds! St. Anthony’s was led by Smith(St. Ant’s game MVP right) with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Mosely with 12 points and 3 assists and Junior Markis McDuffie with 10 points!
Sophomore M.J. Richardson scored 17 points, Senior Lavrone Green-Reels had 15 and Junior Ceasar DeJesus scored 13 points with 7 rebounds to get out in front of Passaic Valley and never look back in a 66-36 rout! Teaneck took a 32-13 halftime lead as Green-Reels had 13 of his points at intermission! Teaneck Senior Myles McLeod grabbed 10 rebounds with 4 blocked shots and 4 steals in the contest! DeJesus(pictured) got game MVP honors! Passaic Valley was led by Senior Stefan Minic and Sophomore Jihad Wright( pictured PV MVP) with 9 points apiece!
ENGLEWOOD 65 HACKENSACK 55
Senior Leon White scored 18 points,dished out 6 dimes and had 5 steals and Senior Justin Iton had 15 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocked shots to lead Englewood to a 65-55 win over Hackensack! Hackensack had a 33-24 halftime lead, but Englewood came out in the 2nd half and outscored the Comets 28-5 in the 3rd to take a 52-38 lead! Hackensack did not quit, cutting the lead to 7 late in the 4th but Englewood held on! Senior Julius Wingate added 12 points and grabbed 7 boards for Englewood! White(pictured) was the Game MVP for Englewood while Junior Raymere Grant(pictured) led Hackensack with 17 points and was the Comets player of the game!
