Kennedy Gets By Teaneck Again At Chave Memorial Tourn. 68-67!

 Ramapo College:  Teaneck seemed to have the answer this time. After losing to Kennedy earlier in the year 95-92 in overtime, the Highwaymen answer was going to be” make anyone on the Knights beat us except Shondel Stewart”. The star senior scored 42 in their first meeting and Teaneck felt they could not let that happen again. So they “held” him to 24 points and thought they had it figured. What they didn’t expect was the play Kennedy would get from senior Zahir Young, junior Dawon Lighty (#5 pictured with Young) and sophomore Sammy Singletary. Young, not known for his offense shocked Teaneck with 16 points and 5 assists and was his aggressive self on the defensive end with 7 steals. Lighty scored 15 and made two free throws with 12 seconds left to win the game for Kennedy 68-67. Singletary scored just 5 points but his defensive pressure, particularly against sharpshooting senior Kyle Steinbergin was key. Teaneck led most of the game behind the play of senior Jonathan Blue (pictured below ) who had 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. he also got help from senior Travon King (14 pts., 6 rebs.), senior Owen Barnes (13 pts.,6asts., 3stls) and Steinbergin (17 pts., 4rebs., 3 stls.). But just like last time Teaneck had trouble with their possessions late. The last turnover leading to Lighty being fouled on a layup leading 67-66. He calmly knocked them both down to give Kennedy the lead. Young and Singletary’s on the ball defense gave Teaneck enough problems where they never got a good shot off at the end.
