MEL HENDERSON MEMORIAL SHOWCASE: DON BOSCO PREP, HACKENSACK, PARAMUS CATHOLIC, RAMAPO, DWIGHT MORROW AND NEWARK TECH WIN!
Hackensack,N.J…. The 1st annual Mel Henderson Memorial Showcase brought out intense basketball and some individual excellence in 6 tough contests played today! When all was done, Don Bosco Prep, Hackensack, Paramus Catholic, Ramapo, Dwight Morrow-Englewood and Newark Tech were all victorious!
DON BOSCO PREP 58 POPE JOHN 52
Brown U commit Brandon Anderson scored 18 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 4 steals and Senior Omar Mostafa added 19 points to lead Don Bosco Prep to a 58-52 win over Pope John! Prep had a 31-18 halftime lead but Pope John played much better in the second half on the defensive end as they cut the lead to single digits in the 4th quarter! Junior Chris Paul, Sophomore Marcellus Earllington were instrumental in DonBosco’s interior play which was the key late! Pope John was led by Senior Ray Montilus with 15 points and Sophomore’s Louis King and Aaron Clarke scored 14 apiece! Anderson and Montilus were voted players of the game!
HACKENSACK 75 UNIVERSITY 59
Senior M.J. Richardson scored 24 points and Senior Edward Emedoh scored 15 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and was a defensive presence blocking 4 shots and altering more shots as Hackensack beat University 75-59! Richardson scored 19 of his points in the first half as Hackensack took a 45-29 halftime lead! University chipped away at the lead in the second half behind Senior Zamir Wright, Senior Murad Banks and Senior Tariq McKenith! Sophomore Razeyah Surrell scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in the 2nd half to lead Hackensack! Surrell finished with 12 points! Wright scored 23 points with 9 rebounds, Banks finished with 15 points and McKenith added 14! Edwards and Wright were voted players of the game!
PARAMUS CATHOLIC 64 AMERICAM HISTORY 56
Senior E.J. Anosike scored 24 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and blocked 4 shots as Paramus Catholic defeated American History 64-56! American History led for most of the game but P.C. outscored American History 27-14 in the 4th quarter to pull off the win! Senior Chis Scerbak’s two “triples” and Senior Landon Gaines 7 points keyed PC.’s big 4th quarter! Freshman Papie Roberts scored 20 points and Senior Yvens Monfleury added 15 points and 13 rebounds for American History! Scerbak finshed with 14 points for Paramus Catholic! Anosike and Roberts were voted players of the game!
RAMAPO 55 MANCHESTER 38
Ramapo’s relentless defensive pressure proved too much for Manchester to handle as they pulled off a 55-38 win! Senior Matt Latka and Senior Ryan Curtiss combined for 27 points to lead Ramapo! Manchester led at the end of the 1st quarter 11-9 but Ramapo took the lead 25-21 to end the half! They then outscored Manchester 19-7 in the 3rd quarter to take control of the contest! Manchester was led by Senior Alex Morales with 10 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, Senior Keshawn Pearson with 12 points and Senior Akiel Murray with 12 points! Curtiss had 14 and Latka 13 for Ramapo! Latka and Morales were voted players of the game!
DWIGHT MORROW 69 DWIGHT ENGLEWOOD 61
Dwight-Morrow-Englewood had four players in double figures led by Senior Willie Woods 20 points as they defeated Dwight-Englewood 69-61! Sophomore George Garrison scored 17 points, Sophomore Macio Robinson added 13 points and Senior Khristian Gill had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds!with the score tied at 48 to end the 3rd quarter, Dwight Morrow outscored Dwight-Englewood 21-13 in the 4th to pull out the win! Junior Ryan Galgano and Freshman Jordan McKoy each scored 17 points to lead Dwight-Englewood! Woods and Galgano were selected players of the game!
NEWARK TECH 67 THURGOOD MARSHALL ACADAMY 55
Senior Mustafa Lawrence scored 35 points to lead Newark Tech to a 67-55 win over New York’s Thurgood Marshall Academy! Lawrence scored 20 points in the 1st half as Tech took a 32-16 lead! Marshall tried to fight back behind the scoring of Senior Reggie Quezada in the second half but Mustafa and Junior Luquan Davis big 4th quarters kept Marshall’s from getting close enough to be a threat late! Davis finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds for Tech ,while Quezada was the only Marshall’s plyer in double figures with 18 points! Lawrence and Quezada were selected players of the game!
