NON-PUBLIC A STATE FINAL: DON BOSCO PREP GETS IT’S REVENGE DEFEATING ST. AUGUSTINE 69-66!
Pine Belt Arena Toms River, N.J….After being blown out by St. Augustine last year Don Bosco Prep got a measure of revenge by defeating The Hermits 69-66 and winning it’s first Non-Public A State Championship!
It was not easy as Prep took a 33-16 halftime lead and then had to withstand a furious St. Augustine rally in the 4th quarter to hold on! Senior Charlie Babin’s late free throws was the main reason that Prep was able to come away with the victory! Babin(right) went 11 for 13 from the line in the game and went 8 for 10 in the 4th quarter on his way to 19 points to pull out the win as Prep had lost their best two players in senior Chris Paul and Junior Marcellus Earlington as both had fouled out in the game! Augustine came back on the effort of Senior Austin Kennedy who scored all 22 of his points in the 2nd half! He and Senior Justyn Mutts led the second half charge! Mutts finished with 15 points! Earlington scored 16 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, while Junior Ron Harper and Senior Chris Lovisolo each chipped in 10 points! The lead was cut to 1 twice in the final quarter, but Bagin’s free throws kept St.Augustine from ever tying or taking the lead!
