NORTH 1 GROUP 3 STATES: TEANECK EDGES BY WAYNE HILLS 78-68 IN OT!

003Teaneck,N.J…. When you say the game was closer than the score, no game could be more fitting than the 78-68 overtime win by Teaneck over Wayne Hills!

Teaneck outscored Hills 12-2 in the extra session to move on in the North 1 Group 3 State Playoff game! Senior Leondre Washington(top right) scored 9 of the Highwaymen’s 12 points on his way to a  32 point, 8 assist, 6 rebound, 3 steals effort! Senior Adrian Baucom added 16 points, including 14 in the 2nd half for Teaneck and Senior Pierre Sow(pictured) had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go with 4 blocks! Wayne Hills was led by Junior Justin Wills 16 points, including the game tying “triple” in the 4th quarter to send the game into overtime as Washington’s last jumper bounced off the 004rim to make it 66 all! Junior Joey Belli added 13 points and 9 assists for Wayne Hills, Junior Jason Modak scored 12 points and pulled down 7 rebounds! Hills led most of the 1st half holding onto a 31-30 lead! In the second half Baucom gave Teaneck a quick lead on a “triple”, but Wills answered with a three of his own to give Hills a 39-38 lead and finished the quarter up 54-52! Washington’s “triple” with 3:45 gave Teaneck the lead 57-56, but two Wills free throws gave the lead back to Wayne Hills 58-57!  a follow by Junior Corey Gordon gave Teaneck a 60-58 lead , but Belli’s “triple” put Hills up 61-60! In the overtime Washington scored Teaneck’s first four points and with Hills getting a free throw from Senior Justin Hodge Teaneck led 70-67! Junior Ja’Quaye James free throw and a dunk by Sow on a feed from Washington gave Teaneck a 73-68 lead and breathing room! Teaneck will now face Old Tappan in the next round!

 

Gardenstatehoops farewell: Gardenstatehoops would like to acknowledge the career of Senior Justin Hodge(pictured)! Ju004stin had a strong Senior Season as he is an All-county candidate and has enough athleticism to be a very good college player! Gardenstatehoops would like to acknowledge Justin and his family on an outstanding Highschool career and the best in the future!
