NORTH A NON-PUBLIC STATES: ST.JOSEPH DEFEATS BERGEN CATHOLIC 67-58!
Montvale,N.J……In a hard fought no holds barred game St.Joseph outlasted Bergen Catholic 67-58 in a Parochial A Non-Public State game! Junior Nate Garvey(right) led the way for St.Joe’s as he scored 24 points, including a huge “triple” with 1:20 left in the game and Sophomore Chauncey Hawkins(left) who has had a coming out season shined throughout as he scored 19 points in the game and made key free throws late! St.Joe’s led at the half 37-27, but Bergen Catholic came back in the 2nd half and finally took the lead with 6:44 left in the game as Senior Justin Salem knocked down a “triple’ to give them a 47-44 lead! Garvey’s three tied it back up, but Junior Riley Welsh hit another three to put B.C. up again 50-47! Senior Andrew McGuire’s three tied it up again and his layup put St.Joe’s up 52-50! Joe’s would not relinguish the lead! Salem was outstanding in scoring 20 points with 5″triples” and Welsh added 17 points! Senior Pierfrancisco Oliva finished with 8 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots! St.Joe’s will play the winner of Seton Hall Prep and St.Peters Prep Saturday!
NOTES: Gardenstatehoops would like to congratulate the careers of Senior’s Justin Salem and Pierfrancisco Oliva! Justin who this sight has known for many years will be going to Hofstra on a baseball scholarship and Oliva who has been here for a short time has received a full ride to St.Joseph University for basketball! Each has made a mark on Bergen Catholic’s basketball history and have become part of a special group, walking away with a Jamboree Championship! Good luck to both of these talented young men and their families because the future is bright for the both of them!
