PASSAIC COUNTY SEMIFINALS: GEE’S “TRIPLE” LIFTS KENNEDY OVER HAWTHORNE CHRISTIAN 38-36!
Paterson,NJ…. For four quarters it looked like the Passaic County finals was going to have a new entry! Hawthorne Christian was 7 seconds from participating in their first ever County Finals Championship! But, no one told Kennedy Sophomore Alphonso”Chop”Gee!
Down 36-35 with 7 seconds left, Gee(right) took the inbounds and raced down the court, took a bump up top and headed to the left corner where he pulled for a perfect jumpshot from “3” that hit nothing but net to give them a 38-36 win and brought a rush of fans onto the court(left)! Hawthorne Christian brought a 20-0 record into the contest and held a small lead for much of the game as Kennedy held only two leads 3-0 and 23-21 before the final score! 6’8 Senior bigman Alex Thomas was the main problem for Kennedy as his size caused mismatches and his unselfishness resulted in a few feeds down low to cutters for buckets! His last point gave Hawthorne Christian a 36-32 lead, but Gee hit a”triple” to cut the lead to one and set the stage for Gee’s moment! Gee finished with 16 points, including 5″triples”! Thomas finished with a terrific performance scoring 15 points with 19 rebounds, 11 blocked shots and 6 assists, while Senior Jake Hart finished 10 points and 6 rebounds! Kennedy will now face Eastside in the final!
