PLAYAZ NEW YEARS JUMPOFF: HUDSON CATHOLIC, ST.MARY’S, BERGEN CATHOLIC, ST.ANTHONY, MATER DEI AND KENNEDY WIN!

Montclair State University Montclair,N.J….. The 13th annual Playaz sponsored New Years Jumpoff took place at a new venue, but the games were just as good as it’s always been! At the end of the evening Hudson Catholic, St.Mary’s(Elizabeth), Bergen Catholic, St.Anthony, Mater Dei and Kennedy were all victorious!012

 

                                                                               HUDSON CATHOLIC  48    TEANECK  39

Junior Jahvon Quinerly scored 17 of his 21 points in the 2nd half to lift Hudson Catholic to a 48-39 win over Teaneck! Leading 17-13 to end the half, Quinerly had a big 3rd quarter as H.C. scored 20 points to take a 37-27 lead! Junior Luther Muhammad added 10 points and pulled down 7 rebounds for Hudson Catholic! Teaneck was led by Junior Ja’Quaye James with 16 points and Senior Adrian Baucom and Junior Jayden Dawson each scored 7 points! Quinerly and James each were chosen Players of the Game!

 

 

                                                                              011ST.MARY’S(ELIZ.) 64     GILL ST.BERNARD 56

Junior Casmir Ochiaka scored 23 points and pulled down 9 rebounds and Senior Ahmed St.Fleur added 18 points to lead St.Mary’s to an exciting 64-56 win over Gill St.Bernard! Gill led at the half 31-24, but St.Mary’s continued the defensive pressure and eventually tied the game at the end of the 3rd quarter at 41 all! St.Mary’s big 4th quarter,outscoring Gill 24-16 proved to be difference! Gill St.Bernard was led by Sophomore Paul Mulcahy with 18 points,10 boards and 5 dimes! Senior Mike Morreale finished with 17 points for Gill! Ochiaka and Mulcahy each were chosen Players of the Game!

Senior Gabe Stefanini scored 24 points, Freshman Matt Zona added 11 points and Senior Taj Benning chipped 010in 10 points and overcame a 33 point, 6 steal performance from Immaculate Conception’s Junior Jal

en Carey as Bergen Catholic defeated IC 64-56! Bergen led most of the contest and took a 48-36 after the 3rd quarter, but Immaculate made one last run in the 4th behind Carey’s scoring output and cut the lead to 6 before Bergen iced it with free throws by Stefanini! Carey and Stefanini were name Players of the Game!

Howard University commit R.J. Cole scored 16 points, Sophomore Alexander Rice and Junior Nigel Marshall chipped in 12 points to lead St.Anthony to a 59-37 win over Pope John! St.Anthony outscored Pope John 20-9 in the 3rd to take control of the contest and take a 45-26 lead into the final quarter! Junior Samba Diallo led Pope with 13 points and 12 rebounds and Junior Aaron Clarke added 11 points and 3 steals! Cole and Diallo were chosen Players of the Game!

 

 

 

                                                                                     MATER DEI  60    UNION CATHOLIC  46

Princeton commit Elijah Barnes scored 12 points and Junior Adam Afifi added 10 points to lead Mater Dei to a 60-46 win over Union Catholic! Mater Dei led throughout and took a 47-27 lead into the final quarter! Senior Kyle Lofton led 008Union Catholic with 15 points and was chosen Player of the Game along with Barnes!

 

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                               KENNEDY  45          PASSAIC  36

Junior Jaylen Colon scored 10 points with 5 assists and Senior Joe Shoulars added 9 points and 8 rebounds to lead Kennedy to a 45-36 win over Passaic! Kennedy led 39-20 to start the 4th quarter! Passaic made it respectable by maki007ng a late run! Junior Wander Castillo led Passaic with 12 points and Senior Quasim Wilson added 8 points and 9 rebounds! Colon and Castillo were chosen Players of the Game!
