PLAYAZ NEW YEARS JUMPOFF: PATRICK SCHOOL, POPE JOHN, PLAINFIELD, TEANECK, HACKENSACK AND BARRINGER WIN!
The Playaz sponsored 2016 New Years Jumpoff was as good as advertised! When all was said and done, the Patrick School, Pope John, Teaneck, Plainfield, Hackensack and Barringer all came away with victories!
PATRICK SCHOOL 55 HUDSON CATHOLIC 45
Hudson Catholic gave the Patrick School all it could handle for three and a half quarters, but The Patrick School, led by Harvard commit Bryce Aiken proved too much in the end as they held on for a 55-45 win! Aiken scored 17 points with 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Rhode Island commit Cyril Langevine added 13 points,pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked 4 shots! They off set the play of Hudson Catholic’s dynamic Sophomore tandem of Luther Muhammad and Jahvon Quinerly! Muhammad scored 17 points and Quinerly added 15 to lead Hudson! Aiken and Muhammad were chosen player’s of the game!
POPE JOHN 38 MATER DEI 35
The game was sloppy, but hard fought as Pope John behind Sophomore Aaron Clarke outlasted Mater Dei to a 38-35 win! Clarke scored 11 points to lead Pope John! Mater Dei was led by Senior Kyle Elliot with 11! Clarke and Elliot were players of the game!
TEANECK 64 IMMACULATE CONCEPTION 46
Teaneck outscored Immaculate Conception 28-4 in the 3rd quarter to make a close game into a easy win for the Highwaymen! Sophomore Ja’Quaye James scored 25 points and Junior Jawaun Daniels scored 18 points and pulled down 7 rebounds to lead Teaneck! Immaculate’s lone threat came from Sophomore Jalen Carey who scored 29 points and pulled down 9 rebounds! James and Carey were chosen players of the game!
HACKENSACK 78 NEPTUNE 54
Senior M.J. Richardson scored 33 points and dished out 5 assists and Sophomore B.J. Saliba scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Hackensack to an impressive 78-54 win over Neptune! Richardson scored 20 of his points in the second half as Hackensack scored 49 points in the stanza! Sophomore Tyreek Montgomery came off the bench to score 13 points for Neptune! Richardson and Montgomery were chosen players of the game!
PLAINFIELD 69 KENNEDY 65
Senior Jaleel Simmons scored 23 points as Plainfield defeated Kennedy 69-65 in a hard fought contest! Senior Cesar Cordoba added 13 points and Sophomore Charles Talley chipped in 11 points and 5 assists for Plainfield! Senior Alphonso Gee led Kennedy with 14 points as they did tie the game at 63 on a “triple” by Sophomore Jamir Lattimore with 4:25 left in the 4th but could only score two more points the rest of the way! Senior Jordan Rodriguez and Brian Patterson finished with 13 and 11 points respectively for Kennedy! Simmons and Gee were chosen players of the game!
BARRINGER 59 PASSAIC 49
Senior Saquan Young scored 17 points and pulled down 8 rebounds and Junior Rheaquone Taylor scored 15 points, grabbed 14 rebounds, blocked 3 shots with 3 steals to lead Barringer to a 59-49 win over Passaic! The score was tied at the half at 26 as Passaic was led by Junior Jamir Thomas! Thomas scored 24 points and grabbed 22 rebounds in an outstanding performance that just could not overcome the Barringer duo! Taylor and Thomas were chosen players of the game!
