NORTH NON-PUBLIC A STATES: POPE JOHN REACHES FINALS IN 61-52 WIN OVER DON BOSCO PREP!
Sparta,N.J……. Pope John came out on fire, had to hold off a great comeback and finally seal the the win in a 61-52 win over Don Bosco Prep and move into the Non-Public North A Final! Junior James Scott led the way for Pope John scoring 22 points and Syracuse bound Moustapha Diagne and Senior Jeromy Rodriguez dominated the backboards to lead the way! Pope started the game on an 11-0 run and led at the end of the 1st quarter 16-6! Don Bosco Prep fought back and finally tied the game at 46 with 3:43 left in the 4th on a “triple” by Junior Brandon Anderson! Rodriguez tip in made it 48-46 Pope John, but a layup by Anderson tied the score again at 48! That’s when Junior Ray Montilus driving layup and foul shot gave Pope John a 51-48 and started a 13-4 run to finish the contest! Don bosco Prep showed a lot of grit in coming back in a hostile environment, but Pope John’s tenacious rebounding, particularly by Rodriguez proved to be the difference! Rodriguez finished the game with 11 points and 12 rebounds and Diagne, who had been saddled with foul trouble late added 10 points and 8 rebounds! Fordham bound Max Zignorski added 9 points for Pope John! Don Bosco Prep was led by Senior Amani Craddock with 15 points and Anderson finished with 11!
NOTES: Gardenstatehoops would like to congratulate Seniors Amani Craddock(left) and Lonnie Rivera(right) on their Highschool careers! Amani is a next level player who will be a great find for a lot of schools, while Rivera is a American University commit! The future is bright for both young men and it has been a pleasure to cover their highschool careers! Good luck to both and your families should be proud!
