SPURS WIN FIRST P.N.B.A.”CHIP” 123-111!!
Kennedy H.S., Paterson, N.J…….. The first annual P.N.B.A. Championship was a classic with the Spurs, who finished 9-1 with their only loss a forfeit being crowned champs! They defeated the Tim Thomas led Knicks 123-111! Kareem Collins led a balanced attack( which has been a trademark of this team) for the Spurs with 34 points, including 7 “triples”! He was a problem throughout and got help from his teammates, particularly Jerrel Thompson who scored 26 points, Dana John with 21 and Antoine Morgan with 19! Thomas handled double teams most of the game and showed why he was a 14 year veteran in the League finishing with a strong 35 points, 15 rebounds and hitting 5 “triples” himself while making it look easy! Rashard Bishop finished with 24 points, while Bashir Grimes added 17 points and 8 rebounds! The game was close as the game went back and forth, but a 15-3 run at the end helped the Spurs close it out!
NOTES: It can’t be emphasized enough the positive atmosphere the P.N.B.A. League tried to create! While games were played intensely and were hard fought the objective of why this was created was always on display. When things got too out of hand someone was always there to bring it back to it’s perspective! While the League had some small things it can easily fix Paterson Needs Big Brothers Assistance(PNBA) and the motto ” Shoot Baskets, Not Guns” is just what this community needs and let’s hope it’s here for a long time! Again credit has to go to Thomas, James Hargrove, Larry Johnson and Ron Smith for trying to give something to a city that needs all the positive role models it can find!
