ST. JOSEPH METUCHEN, T.O.C. CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!

SunBelt Arena,  Trenton,NJ……St. Joseph Metuchen won the T.O.C by defeating a game Newark Eastside 49-47 in a contest that wasn’t decided until the last shot of the game! It looked as though St. Joseph Metuchen would make it look easy as they took off early and often in the 1st quarter as they took a 19-7 lead and pushed it to a 17 point lead early in the 2nd quarter! But Newark Eastside’s mantra all season has been to never give up and grind harder! That’s exactly what they did as they came all the way back and at the end St. Joe’s held on by the skin of their teeth! Senior Wae Baldwin led St. Joe’s with 12 points, Senior Marques Townes and Sophomore Breein Tyree(who had a spectacular dunk over two defenders) each scored 10 points apiece and Senior Karl Towns finished with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 3assists and 3 blocked shots! Senior Jamar Gilbert led Eastside with 16 points, while Junior Ahmad Harrison scored 10 points! Newark Eastside forced St.Joe’s to 25 turnovers,Towns had to sit for spurts due to foul trouble and St. Joe’s who have scored over 75 points a game struggled offensively, but to their credit they did what they needed to do to win! Gilbert’s “triple” with 1:36 left gave Newark Eastside a 47-46 lead but Townes made two free throws to make it 48-46 and then made another free throw with 14 seconds left! Newark Eastside had one last chance but their three point attempt was off and St.Joe’s had their first ever TOC “CHIP”!
