ZONA’S “TRIPLE” LIFTS BERGEN CATHOLIC OVER DON BOSCO PREP 52-49!

002Bergen Catholic took a big lead, lost it all, then came back on the last shot of the game to win a thrilling game against rival Don Bosco Prep 52-49!

Sophomore Matt Zona(surrounded by teammates) knocked down a “triple” to lift Bergen Catholic to the victory! The game looked as if it would be a runaway as Bergen took a big lead and at one point lead 30-4 in the middle of the second quarter! Don Bosco went on a 11-0 run to end the 1st half and close the gap to 30-15!  Prep then outscored Bergen 20-5 in the 3rd quarter to tie the game up at 35! The game went back and forth in the final quarter as a three by Don Bosco’s Rutgers commit Ron Harper gave them their first lead at 38-35! The game went back and forth, but Zona stepped up in the quarter as he scored all 11 of his points in the final stanza! Prep had the ball with 17 seconds left, but an errant inbounds pass gave Bergen back the ball with 11 seconds left and set the stage for Zona’s heroics! Junior Doug Edert led Bergen with 15 points and Junior Zach Freemantle scored 14 points and pulled down 9 rebounds! Harper led Prep with 23 points and Senior Marcellus Earlington added 16 points!
