Written by Cameron on . Posted in Garden State Hoops

Paterson Catholic is on a mission right now to three-peat in the Passaic County Tournament! Their manhandling of  Eastside H.S. was a team effort as they had 5 players in double figures in the 99-60 rout in a game heard on 1500 am. Seton Hall bound recruit Fuquan Edwin ( pictured #23) led the attack with 22 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 blocks. He wasn’t the only person to star as Fordham recruit Jayon James had 16 points and 5 assists, Sophomore Kyle Anderson (pictured ,voted player of game by 1500 am) had 15 points, 6 assists, 4 blocks and 3 rebounds, Senior Jermaine Peart had 11 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists and Junior Myles Mack added 10 points, 3 assists and one of the best blocks by a 5’9 player you’ll ever see as he pinned an Eastside players layup high against the backboard. The Cougars finished with 15 blocked shots as a team. Junior Derrick Randall had 4 of the blocks to go with his 9 points and 5 rebounds.  Eastside fell behind 25-11 at the end of the 1st quarter and never got back in it as PC scored 35 points in the 2nd to make it a 60-31. The Ghosts lone bright spot came from Senior Marquis Matthews who scored 17 points to go with 5 rebounds and did not seem intimidated at all. Senior guard Janif Green had 10 points, while Terrell Spaulding added 9.

Preview :

Eastside will have their hands full trying to stay in the game with this Paterson Catholic team. The guard play of the Cougars is superior and Eastside will not be able to handle PC’s size.

Players To Watch : Eastside – Seniors Terrell Spaulding , Chris Albuquerque , Janif Green and Allen Dantzler (if available- back)……….Paterson Catholic – Seniors  Fuquan Edwin, Jayon James and Jermaine Peart – Juniors Myles Mack and Derrick Randall – Sophomore  Kyle Anderson.

DePaul and Passaic Valley should be as good as their first meeting, a 60-58 home win for P.V. in overtime. The team that gets it done late in the contest and minimizes it’s mistakes will come out with the ” W”.

Players To Watch : DePaul : Seniors Matt Miller , Mike Minarik and Wally Sajime – Sophomore Davon Jacobs-  Freshman Joshua Marquez………….Passaic Valley: Seniors Dom Coiro , Mike Governali, Anthony DiSanti- Junior Nick DiCristino and Dave Clough

Wayne Valley as always will go as far as Jason Rosenberg and Nick Siljee will take them. Passaic should be able to handle it with superior inside game, but will need guards to play solid.

Players To Watch : Wayne Valley –  Seniors  Jason Rosenberg and Nick Siljee  – Junior Tom Larranga…………Passaic – Seniors Tyshon Pickett and Najee Salaam –  Junior Shakir Rhodes and Andre Dixon – Sophomore Naji Mack

It’s hit or miss for the inconsistent PCT team. At times they seem elite and other times seem uninterested. Hopefully the magnitude of the game will make them bring their A game. Kennedy has been here before and their experience in big games will probably be the difference. Tech played them tough in a 59-55 loss early in the season.

Players To Watch : Passaic County Tech – Seniors  Terrell McDuffie and Wilson Jimenez –  Juniors  Xavier Nieves and Brandon James – Sophomore Assad Hinton………..Kennedy – Seniors  Shondell Stewart, Daquere Hayes( if heathy) and Jaemille Barnes – Juniors Dawon Lighty and Zahir Young  – Sophomore Sammy Singletary

This has the makings of a good one as Indian Hills has the size and athleticism to compete with Paramus Catholic. Andre Blackwood and Justin Harris must step to the challenge for PC.

Players To Watch : Indian Hills :  Seniors Jason Chalmers, Ryan Van Grouw, Chris Torres and Andrew Ballester………… Paramus Catholic : Seniors  Andre Blackwood, Brandon Perez, Eddie Johnson, Aiden Collins and Jordan Wade – Juniors  Justin Harris and Manny Hernandez.

Bergen Catholic and Teaneck are no secret to each other. Teaneck has the best talent of any team in the Jamboree, but are they willing to get dirty. Bergen seemed to be peaking before their loss to Passaic Valley. Can they shake it off and get back to the solid play of the last few games?

Players To Watch :  Teaneck – Seniors  Kyle Steinbergin , Jonathan Blue, Owen Barnes and Travon King – Juniors Branden Davis, Daquan Russ and Justin Hodge………..Bergen Catholic : Seniors  Sean McGuire and Doug Rigg (if healthy)   Juniors Mark Richards, Eric Flanagan and Maurice Grant –  Sophomore Charles Wingate

Don Bosco Prep and Old Tappan should be a good one. Old Tappan has been playing well all year and Shane McLaughlin has gotten healthier. Prep seems to have finally gotten it together and Vaughn Gray is on a roll.

Just when it looks like St. Joseph is ready to be got they pull off a win like Tuesday against Passaic H.S. and you realize this is a strong character team and you must bring your best effort. We’ll see if Elmwood Park is ready to accept the challenge.

Players To Watch : St. Joseph : Seniors Kai Dominguez, Tony Efese, Alex Aitkens, Mike Marchman and Greg Torchon– Junior Iyoha Agho……….. Elmwood Park – Seniors Ryan Belisle and Ryan Velez
