Passaic Valley Holds Off DePaul In O.T. 60-58!

Passaic Valley's Mike Governali

DePaul's Matt Miller

Little Falls……   Mike Governali scored 24 points and made 6 treys, including one that sent the game into overtime, as Passaic Valley came away with a 60-58 squeaker over DePaul Catholic. In a game that was close from start to finish each team had opportunities to put the other away but the will of these squads would not let the outcome be simple. Valley held a thin lead most of the game until with 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter Mike Minarik’s layup gave DePaul it’s first lead of the contest. The fun was just beginning as the lead changed hands or was tied throughout the rest of the 4th. Depaul’s Matt Miller had a big second half scoring 13 of his 19 points and giving DePaul the lead with 38.6 seconds left on a layup to make the score 54-51. Miller had a chance to clinch it by converting a one and one opportunity at the line, however his shot hit the rim and it set the stage for Governali to drain a three from the right corner with 12.6 seconds left to make it 54-54, which proved to be the score as De Paul could not get off a good shot at the end of regulation. With the score 58-56 Miller this time hit 2 free throws to tie it at 58 but Governali knocked down 2 free throws himself which proved to be the game winners. DePaul had one last chance but Anthony DiSanti stole the in bounds on a questionable no call and that was it! Junior Dave Clough scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Dom Coiro added 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Passaic Valley. DePaul got a strong effort from sophomore Davon Jacobs who scored 12 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Keith Ford came off the bench to add 8 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Mike Minarik played solid for DePaul with 8 points and 4 steals  while Wally Sajimi added 6 assists.

Bergen Catholic Blows Out Passaic County Tech 60-39!

Written by Cameron on . Posted in Garden State Hoops

Bergen Catholic  jumped out to a 22-9 1st quarter lead and that was it for Passaic County Tech ! That was the closest they would be the rest of the way! The Crusaders were led by junior Mark Richards 15 points, Doug Rigg’s 11 and Eric Flanagan’s 10. Maurice Grant added 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. The Crusaders  outrebounded  Tech 30-20 and held the Bulldogs to three field goals the entire 1st half. Bergen took it’s biggest lead of 27 points going into the 4th at 54-27. The only bright spot for Tech was the play of junior Xavier (Yellohead) Nieves who poured in almost half of their points with 18. Bergen Catholic now gets ready for Ridgewood H.S. thursday, while Tech will have to shake it off and prepare for another tough game against Eastside H.S.
