BERGEN COUNTY JAMBOREE: Teaneck Champs!
Fairleigh Dickinson, Teaneck………All year Teaneck’s strength has been their depth! That’s exactly what got them the Bergen County Jamboree”CHIP”! Senior Danta Davis, Senior Duquan Russ and Senior Anthony Upshaw have all had to take a back seat this year to the talented underclassman on their squad, but they did not want to end their highschool careers without this “W”! The three of them came up HUGE in the contest propelling the Highwaymen to a 72-67 overtime win over Don Bosco Prep! Prep came out strong, taking an 11-3 lead early in the game and leading 19-9 after the 1st quarter! In the process Russ and Upshaw first came in and helped settle Teaneck down! Upshaw made 2″triples” and Russ added another to help them come from behind! With the help of Junior Chris Jones and Sophomore Shakir Lindsey Teaneck ended the half up 33-28, overcoming the tremendous play of Prep’s Junior guard Jemal Mosley! Davis made his presence felt in the second half, getting layups and putbacks to become Teanecks’ primary scorer! That’s when the contest got good as each team played well and Teaneck held a slight lead until Prep’s Junior Leonte Carroo who played a great game tied the score at 43 with 1:16 left in the 3rd! The 4th quarter was tight the whole way with Teaneck again holding a slight edge! Prep fought back and took a one point lead 58-57 with 2:43 left on another layup from Carroo! Teaneck regained the lead 59-58 with 1:56 on a Davis layup off a feed from Sophomore Joel Hernandez! After Carroo made one of two free throws to tie the score at 59, Teaneck ran the clock down but Lindsey missed a layup to send the game to overtime! Teaneck scored first in O.T. on a layup from Davis off a Lindsey dime, but free throws from Mosley tied the game again at 61! But when Carroo picked up his 5th foul and had to leave it changed the rest of the game for Prep as Teaneck moved ahead 67-61 before a Mosley”triple”again closed the gap! But with the score 69-66 and Prep trying to tie, Davis made a key steal and was fouled which more or less sealed the game! Neither team should hang their head as this game was played with maximum effort by both squads as there were many heroes in the contest! Davis(top right) led Teaneck with 18 points and 6 rebounds while Lindsey (left)added 17 points and dropped 6 dimes! Jones finished with 13 points and 5 boards, Russ had 9 points and Hernandez grabbed 13 rebounds! Mosley led Prep with a game high 24 points and 5 assists and Carroo added 17 points and 7 rebounds! Freshman Paul Jorgenson played well finishing with 8 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists!
