Spaulding And Dantzler Lead Eastside To Win Over Passaic County Tech 74-67!
Wayne…….. Senior Terrell Spaulding had a career day and got needed help from senior Allen Dantzler who made his season debut in a 74- 67 victory over Passaic County Tech. Spaulding played probably his best game of his career scoring 26 points, pulling down 15 rebounds and handing out 3 assists. He continually made big plays for the visiting Ghosts, even going 11 for 12 from the free throw line and making 5 out of 6 in the final minute. The 6’3 Dantzler made his first appearance of the season after missing the beginning of the season with a chip in his back. He came off the bench early and scored 20 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. They offset the play of Passaic County Tech’s junior guard Brandon James who scored 26 points and dished out 5 assists. Eastside led at the end of the 1st half 32-24 as Tech ( with the exception of James) shot the ball poorly. Eastside’s turnovers in the half kept the game that close. The 2nd half was a game of runs as Tech came out of the gate strong, going on a 13-3 run to start the half and take a 37-35 lead. But just as fast Eastside, led by Janif Green ( 9 pts.,2stls.) went on their own 14-2 run to take a 49-39 lead into the final stanza. The Ghosts dominated the glass as they outrebounded the Bulldogs 48-20 as 6’3 senior Chris Albuquerque added 10 rebounds to help Spaulding and Dantzler. James main help came from 6’3 junior Xavier Nieves who had 12 points, 4 assists, 5 steals and was the only player to compete under the boards with 9 rebounds, but he fouled out with 2:00 left in the contest. Senior Travon Johnson came off the bench and gave the Ghosts a lift wth 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. The Bulldogs came as close as 4 points, but Spaulding’s free throws late iced it.
Note : The addition of Dantzler back in the lineup may be just what the doctor ordered for Eastside as they now have a legitimate chance to make a run at some of the power teams, starting with an away game against Passaic on Tuesday. Tech must now overcome consecutive losses to Bergen Catholic and Eastside.

Passaic Valley Holds Off DePaul In O.T. 60-58!
Little Falls…… Mike Governali scored 24 points and made 6 treys, including one that sent the game into overtime, as Passaic Valley came away with a 60-58 squeaker over DePaul Catholic. In a game that was close from start to finish each team had opportunities to put the other away but the will of these squads would not let the outcome be simple. Valley held a thin lead most of the game until with 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter Mike Minarik’s layup gave DePaul it’s first lead of the contest. The fun was just beginning as the lead changed hands or was tied throughout the rest of the 4th. Depaul’s Matt Miller had a big second half scoring 13 of his 19 points and giving DePaul the lead with 38.6 seconds left on a layup to make the score 54-51. Miller had a chance to clinch it by converting a one and one opportunity at the line, however his shot hit the rim and it set the stage for Governali to drain a three from the right corner with 12.6 seconds left to make it 54-54, which proved to be the score as De Paul could not get off a good shot at the end of regulation. With the score 58-56 Miller this time hit 2 free throws to tie it at 58 but Governali knocked down 2 free throws himself which proved to be the game winners. DePaul had one last chance but Anthony DiSanti stole the in bounds on a questionable no call and that was it! Junior Dave Clough scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Dom Coiro added 8 rebounds and 4 assists for Passaic Valley. DePaul got a strong effort from sophomore Davon Jacobs who scored 12 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. Keith Ford came off the bench to add 8 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Mike Minarik played solid for DePaul with 8 points and 4 steals while Wally Sajimi added 6 assists.
